Three Steelmen in the Young National Squad

Tonight’s game is against Israel (Ballast Stadium, Hamilton, 7.45pm) and McFadden, Hammell and Pearson form the Motherwell contribution to Rainer Bonhof’s squad.

Will Pearo get a chance?
Stevie Hammell is the more experienced member of the group having reached the ripe old age of twenty earlier this year. Faddy, already with a full cap, will be hoping to gain a place in the starting eleven and Pearo will be delighted to be included even as a late call up.

The experience to be gained from the involvement in a national squad cannot be underestimated. Increased technique and confidence will be gained and that can only be of benefit to the Mighty ‘Well as all three are first team regulars.

There is talk of Bonhof taking his young team for a week’s warm weather training during January’s winter shutdown – surely a good idea.

On Friday, Northern Ireland visit Love Street (7.15pm) for the second game of the week.

Let’s hope we see a few ‘Well fans at Hamilton tonight to encourage the local lads – after all there’s no game until Celtic appear at Fir Park next Tuesday,
