Saturday's uninspiring spectacle was a contest between two poor teams. It looked for much of the time that the first goal would prove to be the winner and when the good work of McGarry then MacDonald allowed Elliot to score we had an excellent chance to secure all three points.

However, not for the first time, a huge hole appeared in our penalty box and Hunt was allowed to head home unchallenged.

Jimbo to the rescue again

Motherwell have now played eight games for a poor return of one win and a draw. Four points from a possible twenty four. Three games remain until the end of the first cycle and it could be that the next two determine the future of the management team.

We have taken nothing from our games at Fir Park to date and so we can hardly rely on home advantage to help us with the visits of Kilmarnock (30 Sept) and Dunfermline (14 Oct). We finish the first round of matches at Parkhead on 21 October.

The sad truth is that a four point gap separates us from the three teams which have to be our immediate target and if that gap widens there will be real fears that we will not recover.

There may be some interesting questions asked of manager Malpas when he attends the Motherwell Supporters' Trust AGM at Fir Park on Tuesday evening! This meeting starts at 7pm in the Cooper Suite. Non-members can join the Trust on the night.
