Weekend roundup

Henrik Ojamaa earned his first full international honour when he played for the first hour in Croatia.   Our man coped well enough but Estonia were on the wrong end of the 3-1 result and he was off the field when they earned the late consolation.   He may soon get another chance as Estonia are to face Ukraine, Finland and France in the next fortnight.

Chris Humphrey has been getting a big build up on the Reggae Boyz website as he prepares for Jamaica’s game against Panama on Sunday.  He was called up almost a year ago but a family illness put his debut on hold.  He’ll be hoping for an appearance against Guatemala in the World Cup qualifier on 8 June.

As far as contract renewals are concerned we have won two and lost one at the moment.  The good news is that both Stevie Hammell and Keith Lasley have agreed new terms and we can expect to see those senior players with us for the next two seasons.  Tim Clancy has declined the offer of a two year deal and ends his short association with Motherwell.  The rumour mill suggests he may have an offer from Hibs.  Steve Jennings is the only first team regular in limbo and manager McCall will be keen to have a decision soon.

Our first competitive tie in the new season will involve a trip to Kiev, Athens, Copenhagen or Istanbul  but before that we’ll be entertained by a few pre-season warm up games.  The first of those to be announced will have us at New Douglas Park in Hamilton on Tuesday 24July.

The club has given us a poser when it released a statement about the current debacle at Rangers.  What exacty is meant by the line...” We do not believe we can separate the sporting integrity of our league from the sustainable future of our club; the two go hand in hand”.  Fans are promised a degree of consultation before the club takes a firm view on any vote about a NewCo.
