'Well Worth Saving Update

Plans are being put in place for the formation of a 'Well Supporters Trust and the next few weeks will see a number of fundraising activities.

The main aim of the 'Well Worth Saving campaign is to generate local interest in the future of the club. The success of the group will be measured by the heightened awareness of the club's current troubles and by the forging of closer links between the fans and the new administration at Fir Park.

Buy the shirt on Sunday!

The public meeting held at Fir Park last week approved the idea of the formation of a Supporters Trust to represent the fans views to the club. A group of fans are acting as a coordinating group and it is expected that a second meeting with members of the Supporters Direct organisation will be held next week.

There are substantial legal costs associated with the formation of a Trust and the monies raised through the 'Well Worth Saving group will be used to establish the new body.

The generosity of football fans (both 'Well and non 'Well fans) continues to impress and there are a number of events planned in the next few weeks.

  • WWS Tee Shirts (as modelled by Messers Elliott and McFadden at the Chivo game) will be on sale for a tenner at Sunday's game against Dundee. There will be two styles available and keen collecters of Motherwell Memorabilia are expected to buy one of each!
  • WWS Fives A five-a-side tournament is provisionally scheduled for Saturday June 29 at the Pitz in Hamilton. Squads of seven players are encouraged to register with David or to collect an entry form at the game on Sunday. Fees will be £35 a team and each squad will be guaranteed at least forty five minutes on the pitch in a Champions League style tournament. It is hoped that some former players may be present (some may participate).
  • Battle of the Bands It is possible that a Battle of the Bands event could be arrenged.
  • Dream Day Fancy a game on the hallowed turf at Fir Park? Arrangements are being made for an event (probably September 1). Watch this space for more soon.

Funds raised though these events will be channelled into the Trust. But the club still has a (hopefully) short term cash flow problem. Players wages need to be paid over the summer and the best way of ensuring that the Fir Park bank balance is healthy enough to cope is for fans to turn out in their thousands at Fir Park on Sunday for the Dundee game.

Come on ye 'Well.
