U21's, 'Well 3-1 Hearts

We took an early advantage when Darren Jack won a flick on in the air and sent Ian Russell clear. He rounded the goalie (was McFadden watching…) and wrong footed the defender as he slipped the ball home.

Hearts missed a couple of chances to equalise, the best of which being a header that went over from six yards.

Solid enough
We missed a chance to double our lead when Russell’s cross evaded Jack in the middle. We didn’t take much longer to get the second goal although it did come in fortuitous circumstances. Russell tried to cross from the right but the defender managed to get a foot on it. He only managed to deflect the ball into the air and it looped over the ‘keeper and in at the back post.

The second half continued in much the same way. Shaun Fagan came close when he deflected Dempsie’s header onto the bar and then he couldn’t get out the way of McDonald’s shot which was deflected wide.

Again, the goal was only delayed. Ian Russell beat his man at the edge of the box and was hauled down. Kevin McDonald wanted to take the penalty but he conceded the ball to Russell who rattled it home to complete his hat-trick.

Hearts had a chance to pull a goal back when Graham Mathie pulled Wales back but Davidson could only skelp the ball off DuBourdeau’s legs from the spot.

Sadly the clean sheet was not maintained with Hearts scoring a consolation in the closing minutes.

Team: DuBourdeau, Dempsie (Bell), Mathie, Kinniburgh, Sengewald, McDonald (Black), Cowan, Fagan, Jack, Russell, Crawley.
