A new column - Craig's Corner

Last updated : 16 May 2002 By Craig Holmes

During the summer months I will have a new column every few weeks or so and when the new season kicks off I will try and get one out to you every week. In my column I shall be writing about what's been going on at MFC, the latest results and my predictions for the forthcoming game.

End of Season

Well, we have reached that time of year again - the end of the season. It isn't as bad this year as we have the world cup to watch over the summer months. 'Well ended the season in good form. A 2-1 win over Dundee (it could have been 10-1 the chances we had) was played in front of over 6500 fans and I was impressed by the way we performed on the day. I particularly liked the young centre half we had playing alongside Deloumeaux. He coped well with the two diving Dundee forwards (did you see them, they were never off the floor). I don't know about anyone else but I am getting a bit concerned about James McFadden. I know he is a good player but I think he thinks he is better than he actually is, maybe all the publicity has went straight to his head. On Saturday I thought he had a terrible game, he missed a penalty, tried to take on to many players at once and didn't seem to want to pass to any of his team mates. I think someone was trying to show off to Mr. Vogts, don't you?

Player Exodus

We seem to have lost quite a few players in the last couple of weeks! A total of 19 players were released from Fir Park. Brown, Dow, Forrest, Ready, Strong, Twaddle, Martinez, Ferrere, Soloy and Nicholas have all been first team regulars at some point in their ‘Well careers but were told they were no longer required. It's guys like Ready and Strong I feel sorry for. They gave 100% in every game but because of their high wages they had to go. Guys like Dow, Twaddle and Nicholas I have no sympathy for. They were picking up a few grand a week for doing absolutely nothing, and they have the cheek to slag ‘Well off in the papers. I'm sure everyone who was released will be able to find a new club by August so good luck to them with their future teams.

Prediction

This would be the part of the column where I would predict the score of the next Well game. As they have no games in the near future, I will share with you my prediction for the summer’s big tournament. Personally I can't see past Argentina. I think they will get to the final without any problems (knocking England out in the group stages) and my prediction for the final is: Argentina 2-1 Italy.

That's all for now

Until next time

Craig
