Craig's Corner - Bad Times Ahead?

Last updated : 15 November 2002 By Craig Holmes

Since that great night, 'Well have picked up only one point out of a possible twenty four in the SPL. Where did it all go wrong?

A lot of bad luck has caused this, but also some bad defending and some goalkeeping errors, and as a result we have fallen to the bottom of the table. Also, some of our so-called top players have not been performing to their best the last few weeks. Players like Hammell and Pearson are big players for us, we need them more than ever to be at the top of their form..

Recent Games

Partick 2-0 'Well - This was our biggest game of the season. If we lost this game there was a chance of going to the bottom of the table. 'Well didn't perform on the day and ex-'Well player Alex Burns scored against us again to put the game beyond us and to make matters worse captain Scott Leitch needlessly got himself sent off meaning he misses important games, which we cannot afford. When we thought the day could not get any worse, news came through that Dundee United had scored in the last minute to sneak a win at Rugby Park. 'Well were bottom!

'Well 0-1 Killie - Kilmarnock came to Fir Park looking for revenge for their 3-0 defeat in August. They got it in the best possible way. The game was seemingly heading for a draw with both teams missing plenty of chances and both 'keepers making good saves when a Kris Boyd free-kick went past the goalie and into the net in the second minute of injury time. That goal pretty much summed up our season.

Changes In The Side

In the last few games there have been a few changes in the side. One benefit of this has been the discovery of a real good player in David Cowan. He has played very well in the games and he has shown versatility in that he is able to play in many positions, which will be useful as injuries and suspensions mount up. Summer signing Khaled Kemas has also featured heavily since returning from injury. Apart from his great strike against Livi, he has not done a lot more but hopefully when he gets match fitness he will turn into a good player for us. The most notable change in the last game was that of the goalkeeper. Terry Butcher seemed to listen to the fans and dropped Stevie Woods from the side. Francois DuBordeau came in and I thought he performed really well. He made at least three decent saves and was unlucky not to keep a clean side. The people who are blaming him for the goal are being very harsh. I was in the line with the free-kick and Francois didn't see the ball until late and was unlucky not to keep it out.

Prediction

Once again on Saturday it is our "biggest game of the season so far". We have had quite a few of these in recent weeks and lost them all. Let’s hope that changes this week. I think the manager will keep a similar side to last week but I hope he makes one change, Ferguson for Kemas. Stevie Ferguson has plenty of pace and can run at the defenders. This will good for Dirk Lehmann as Ferguson can run onto these. He hasn't scored for us yet, but if he can get a goal, I feel many will follow. I believe he will get his first for 'Well on Saturday on our way to a two-nil victory.

'Well 2-0 United
