Kevin McBride

The youngster has been stating his desire to remain at Fir Park after his loan period is up in early January. Citing the opportunity of first team football as a big draw, he says “I'm enjoying first team football and it would be hard to go back to sitting in the stand at Parkhead.”

I can’t be alone in thinking that Terry should do his utmost to keep Kevin in a claret and amber jersey, even if that does mean Stevie Hammell heading up the M74 in the opposite direction.

Fair enough we would yet again be losing a player who has developed through our ranks to a place on the bench and higher wages (although in fairness to Stevie he may well dislodge Agathe from left back!). But such is the order of things for a club like us and how often would we get the chance to get a young player of McBride’s undoubted quality.

Kevin has notched up an impressive five goals in thirteen starts. If he had been a product of our youth system he would no doubt have achieved similar stats three seasons ago and would now be being touted for a possible move in the opposite direction.

So all in all if the opportunity arises to use Hammell as a make weight to securing the services of McBride then I think Terry should take it. Besides, our tradition of producing quality left backs would be able to continue given that Mark Fitzpatrick would be able to slot into his favoured position, an opportunity which would be limited should Stevie stay.
