Chucky - Ferbuary/March 2003

Last updated : 26 March 2003 By Stuart Rae
Since the last report after the Scottish Cup game against Clyde, we went back to league business to face Hearts away. Around 1000 ‘Well fans made the journey to see what was one of ‘Well’s best away performances in a long time. Hearts went ahead just before half time but we were level just into the second half with a great goal from Keith Lasley. Hearts nicked it in the end with a goal from Scott Severin making it Hearts 2 ‘Well 1.

We then had to face Aberdeen at Fir Par. Unbeaten at home since November we were looking to get the three points. It was decided by a goal from Aberdeen’s Paul Sheerin after about five minutes from the penalty spot. ‘Well were poor that day and lost Stephen Pearson who is now facing a four-match ban.
After the Dons game we faced yet another away match to Ibrox. The last time we were there we lost 3-0. This time there was a better effort with us only losing 2-0. Goals from Barry Ferguson and Lovenkrnands finished the game.
Then finally the day arrived - 22nd March. It was Scottish Cup quarterfinal day and ‘Well faced second division side Stranraer. With around 3000 Motherwell fans heading south there was a lot expected from the players. The first 20 minutes or so were nervy but it was Motherwell who made the break through with a Derek Adams cross hitting a Stranraer player and going into the back of the net. That was the score until the second half. ‘Well came out in full attacking mode in the second half and eventually won the game 4-0. Other goals came from McFadden, Adams and Dirk Lehmann rounded it off.

After the shock result on Sunday, Celtic out, with Inverness Caley doing it again, we all watched the draw, and out it came:
Dunfermline/Rangers V Motherwell
We now all look forward to our first trip to Hampden since 1991. But before then we will be back to league business on the 5th April against Dunfermline.
