Mike's Moan - The Season Begins

Mike's Moan

Craigan has his good days and his bad days, but if you put him alongside an inexperienced youth, a slow left winger, and a right back that can't pass, I believe every well fan must have been worried before Sunday's game.

The new gaffer must make a few new signings soon hopefully, with defence and midfield the clear priority. Losing Hammell was not only a blow defensively, but he was the point for a lot of our attacks as well, so a good (hopefully quick) left back is needed. If Celtic sign this Bulgarian left back, I think Malpas should go straight for Charlie Mulgrew on loan for the season. Celtic would surely prefer him to be playing that sitting in the reserves.

Midfield is also a worry, as we only have O'Donnell and Kerr as recognised centre midfielders. I am quite happy with both of them, but they are both slightly injury prone, and if one gets injured we are in trouble - as the only replacement ii Fagan. We have been linked with Alan McCormack which would be good, but what about bringing Keith Lasley back. He has been training with Kilmarnock, but as far as I can gather has not signed - so I say bring him back ASAP!

The positive aspect about Sunday's game was Malpas, he made a big impact with his half-time talk, and also made good substitutions (which was not Butcher's strong point). I was happy to see Fitzpatrick get on, and also happy to see Clarkson given the chance in a wide area. David is not the best finisher, but he tries hard and can beat people, so I say give him more outings on the wing and hope for the best (Motherwell are masters in turning strikers into wide midfielders after all).

So bring on the buddies, even with our dodgy defence I am still expecting a comfortable win. I am also looking forward to seeing Ross McCormack and Scott MacDonald in the same team, as they are both clever players who should be able to unlock defences.
