Mike's Moan: Can This Continue?

Last updated : 22 February 2008 By Mike

I am sure many of us are waiting for the team to become unstuck but the reality of it is that this is now unlikely to happen.  We have good players playing high on confidence who genuinely believe they are better than most of the other teams in the league.

We have won nine of our last thirteen games, which is remarkable form, and there is no reason why it cannot continue. Even when players have poor games, we seem to have others that always step up. Take the recent Gretna game for instance, Clarkson and Rossco were not at their best, but we had Porter back and Darren Smith put in a great performance.

Even in the middle of the park, we have Hughes and Lasley who are both playing well, and even Mark Fitzpatrick is doing a good job for us just now.

I am one of Fitz's biggest critics, never at Fir Park, but I have given the boy quite a hard time on the message boards as many of his prior performances have been dire. However, since we have changed our style of play and stopped playing so much through the middle he has come into his own. He is an effective destructive midfield player, who needs to keep it simple and put himself about. His pace and engine get him up and down the park all day long, and it is his donkey work which creates the space for the more gifted players to play.

Keep it up Mark!!!

Looking forward to the Hearts game on Saturday I think we should all be confident, however at the back of our minds we know that if our performance levels drop we could easily face a defeat. Hearts are a better team than St Mirren, and the Buddies played us off the park in January, so the team need to remain focused.

Hearts won't be over-confident of getting a result, and our new style could even hurt them more as they are a little vulnerable at the back. It will be a close game, but I believe we can come out on top again - but hey the bubble has to burst sometime??? Not.
