Mike's Moan: It's Not All Bad… We Could be Dundee United

Last updated : 20 September 2006 By Mike

Queen's Park should hold no fears for us and we should win comfortably and move to the next round. However, it is also important to put in a good performance to gain confidence. We have to build on the positives from the Hearts game and hopefully notch a few goals. I would imagine Malpas will keep the same formation, with the only change maybe playing Donnelly and moving Paterson to left wing-back. I'd leave JP where he is, but I would guess that MM would want to give another centre half a run-out.

If we overcome the battling Spiders we can then look forward to a huge game on Saturday against fellow strugglers Dundee United. The Tangerines are perennial under-achievers and have the uncanny knack of signing good players and turning them into duds. Eddie Thompson must wonder what is he has to do for United to achieve a respectable league position, as he has backed all his managers and not one of them has delivered. Big name players such Stevie Crawford, David Fernadez, Derek McInnes, Paul Ritchie and Lee Miller have all come through the door on big wages, and all have left on a free after achieving nothing. They currently look very ordinary, with Craig Brewster's jacket looking on the same shaky peg as MM's.

Motherwell surely have a good chance of taking something from next Saturday's game but whether we will or not is impossible to predict. Can we cut out the mistakes that have been killing us all season? Can we avoid any more major injuries? Can we score a goal? If we deliver the same effort that we did against Hearts, keep our shape and discipline, and create the chances for Skippy and Ritchie again then I think we have a great chance - but then again I usually do!!!

It's another massive week for Motherwell, but this is no shock as I have been saying this for the whole season. Two wins would be great, but a win and a draw would also be an improvement.

Predictions:

Queen's Park 0 Motherwell 3

Dundee Utd 0 Motherwell 1 (it's great being an optimist!)
