Tam's Tantrum - Media Bashing

Last updated : 22 December 2002 By Tom Bell
Obviously this good cheer doesn’t spread to the delightful “ Garden Town” of Lanarkshire – yes Airdrie to those of you who are not in regular touch with my friend from that wonderful place, oh yes!, it’s Andy McInnes again!

The bold Mr. McInnes is another one of these journalists(?) who reside in cosmopolitan Airdrie and support the local team Clydebank, sorry Airdrie, just like our other good friend from the media in the town – Jim Traynor. Two men for whom the envy, not to say downright jealousy, of Motherwell – the town, people and Motherwell FC continues to exist in heavy measure.

In response to my recent column, dated 9th December, 2002, Mr. McInnes sent some answers and questions as follows:

Question – Why did John Boyle attempt to buy Broomfield?
Answer – If not to make a shrewd investment, it would have been useful as a training ground for our Under-21’s of course.

Answer to you being a windbag from Airdrie and not Glasgow – this may be so, but you are a representative and therefore part of the Glasgow media operation and all that entails.

And as for how you get your “ill-judged opinions” into print – good response, “Simple, I’m the boss!”, but the words lunatic and asylum creep instantly to mind.

I hope Andy McInnes and the equally, if not more, offensive Jim Traynor (who for some reason believes Motherwell should be shut down – quote Radio Scotland earlier this season) enjoy the remainder of the season and keep one thought in mind for the new year.

Give credit, where credit is due, to all of the clubs who are now doing there best to produce their own young talent, we should be trying to encourage some loyalty to the clubs who gave them their chance not deriding the clubs for their efforts to keep excellent young players in the country a little longer.

So guys, it’s time you got rid of the boulders you both carry around on your shoulders, as it would be of benefit to everyone.

And that’s a fact!!
