Motherwell 0-3 Inverness CT- Match Report

Inverness blow away Motherwell with strong second half performance

Second half goals from Carl Tremarco, Lonsana Doumbouya and Liam Polworth earned Inverness all three points in Wednesday's Ladbrokes Premiership match against Motherwell.

After a tepid opening period, Tremarco turned in Brad McKay's cross to give the visitors the lead and 15 minutes later Doumbouya doubled it, before Polworth's completed the scoring late on from 25 yards.

Louis Moult had a goal disallowed for the hosts but that was as close as they came against a side who moved into the top six.

Motherwell made one change from the side that lost 2-0 to Celtic 11 days ago, with Scott McDonald dropping out in favour of Ryan Bowman

Inverness also made one switch, with Aaron Doran handed his first start since July 2015 at the expense of Jake Mulraney.

The home side had won just one of their last six league games prior to this one, with Inverness losing just once in seven- and the away side started brightly with Ross Draper glancing a header from Tremarco's cross at Craig Samson.

Craig Clay had the first chance for the home side as he was picked out by Ross MacLean, however he steered wide under pressure from McKay.

Mark McGhee's men were coming more into the game and Moult, paired up front with Bowman, should have done better when the latter fed him the ball inside the Inverness penalty area

Instead, he blasted his shot into the side-netting.

Neither goalkeeper was forced into meaningful action though, with the best chance for the visitors before the break coming when Doumbouya glanced McKay's cross wide of Samson's goal.

The second half needed to liven the game up and just minutes into it, Moult should have given Motherwell the lead

MacLean's corner picked out the striker on the edge of the six-yard box but he headed over.

The opening goal came in the 57th minute, when Tremarco, on the slide, turned in McKay's cross via the underside of the crossbar.

Polworth had a deflected effort palmed wide by Samson, while Motherwell were often wasteful with their meaningful possession at the other end.

The hosts were duly punished in the 71st minute when Doumbouya was the beneficiary of poor home defending, tapping in as the Steelmen failed to deal with an Iain Vigurs corner.

Moult prodded a McDonald lay-off over the bar and had a header disallowed for offside, before Polworth's sweet strike in the 83rd minute completed an impressive Inverness victory.
