This game had the dubious title of being the battle for seventh place! Both teams made changes to the starting line-ups.

There was little evidence of a push for seventh in the early stages as the game had a distinct end of season feel. The only real chance of the early stages fell to Motherwell's Phil O'Donnell who was released by Scott McDonald, but his right-foot shot was turned round the post by Mark Brown.

Inverness responded with an Alan Morgan free-kick cleared by Stephen Craigan, but the visitors took the lead after 27 minutes when Craig Dargo latched on to a long Stuart Golabek clearance and coolly slotted then ball past Graeme Smith in the'Well goal.

Motherwell made things hard for themselves at the start of the second half when Alan McCormack stupidly picked up two yellow cards in the space of a minute which saw them reduced to 10 men for the last 40 minutes.

'Well showed tremendous spirit and they continued to push forward with Brian McLean unlucky to his shot cleared wide by one of his own players, although it also appeared as though Inverness dropped the pressure by a notch, giving 'Well the chance to find a way back if the could.

In the end, Inverness held on to their lead reasonably comfortably and move into pole position for that seventh place finish.
