Motherwell take a point at Pittodrie thanks to a second half equaliser from Eli Just. A 1-1 was a fair reflection of the game.
The afternoon had a cagey start but it did not take long for Motherwell to impose their style on top of a sluggish Aberdeen side. A careless attempt at passing out from the back gave the visitors a first opportunity as they set up camp in the Aberdeen half.
Apostolos Stamatelopoulos came close to meeting Callum Slattery’s cross but Dimitar Mitov was grateful to clutch. Slattery followed that with a direct shot on target from the middle of the box but a touch put it high.
Tawanda Maswanhise was well supplied and his trickery prompted and early booking for Emmanuel Gyamfi. Maswanhise had a powerful shot deflected following a corner and Elliot Watt had a blast from 20 yards.
In a rare visit to the beach end Marko Lazatec spurned a golden chance when he beat the defensive line following a free kick but the ball was scooped wide.
There was no surprise at the restart to see a double Dons substitution and it proved to be effective. Motherwell’s domination of the ball disappeared and the home side began to threaten. The reward came on the hour when Jesper Karlsson collected on the left at the halfway line. His forward run was not challenged and when he arrived at the ‘D’ he unleased a powerful drive that beat Callum Ward to his right.
Thankfully, the reply came quickly. Slattery spotted Eli Just available and a quick delivery caught the defence napping. The New Zealander flicked the ball beyond Mitov to level the game.
Motherwell turned to the bench and came close when Callum Hendry had a half chance with a snapshot but it flew high.
Both sides probed for a winner but in the end a share of the spoils was probably a fair outcome. If only Motherwell could develop a killer touch to round off the pretty passing.
