Report: Motherwell 3 St Mirren 3

Last updated : 03 July 2017 By Firparkcorner

The final game of the season saw St Mirren come to Fir Park and sneak a point in an exciting three all draw. We shot ourselves in the foot on a couple of occasions and BD will be mildly annoyed at the two dropped points.

We got the best of starts. In three minutes Dougie Ramsay got to a cross before the defence and swept the ball into the net. We kept most of the ball for the next twenty minutes and had a few half chances.

The Buds started to show and equalised just after the half hour when Quitongo beat Hammell to a header and beat Woods at his left hand post. Only the mild weather kept the fans warm this half as the goalmouth incidents were few and far between. But that was to change in the second forty five.

Five minutes into the second half and referee Young awarded a soft free kick twenty yards out dead centre. Elliott charged the kick and was booked. The second attempt saw Fenton curl a great shot round the right hand side of the wall into Stevie's left hand corner.

Worse was to follow. In fifty seven minutes Quitongo got his second with a drive (again to Woods' left).

We got one back with twenty minutes to go when Elliott swept a penalty in for his dozen this season. Turner had been sent off for preventing a goal by handling on the line.

Stuarty made it the baker's dozen five minutes later when the ball fell to him close in and he rifled it into the net.

Motherwell continued to pound the Buddies goal but the winner just wouldn't come. Lasley beat two players but chipped over the bar and when Elliott saw a tremendous half volley rebound off the bar our chance had gone.

Season over, we finished eighth - not bad but not great either. Here's to next year!
