Motherwell CT 2 - 1 Kilbride Villa (10/11/12)

This was a very tough fixture for MFC against the league leaders and Motherwell came flying out of the traps creating a number of chances, letting Villa know they were in a game.

Motherwell may have had the feeling that this wasn't going to be their day after Tonner & Fox missed clear chances and with Villa always looking dangerous on the break, Motherwell had to make sure the to convert their chances.

Midway through the first half the ball fell to Tonner on the edge of the box and a lovely turn allowed him to get his shot away. It took a wicked deflection and looped over the keeper to put Motherwell one up at the break.

Motherwell dominated the second half with Villa struggling to get into the game. And 15 minutes into the second half Fox found himself 1 on 1 with the keeper and kept his nerve to fire it low past the Villa keeper to double ‘Well’s lead.

Villa did pull one back through a set piece, causing a mix up in the ‘Well defence and in controversial circumstances bundled the ball over the line with five minutes to go.

‘Well were reduced to 10 men when Kane received a straight red for an off the ball incident.

However, Motherwell held on to claim the victory and three points.

Motherwell face Avon Athletic next Saturday away from home hoping to keep building on the performances in recent weeks and to maintain the push up the league.  Motherwell are six points behind league leaders Kilbride Villa with a game in hand.
