FirParkCorner 3 Erin Hibs 1

Last updated : 02 September 2002 By Mitch
FPCFC started the game with the now customary 3-4-3 formation. Due to Mark not playing, there had to be a shuffle in the defence. Jnr filled the spot. FPC had the better of the game and played some very good football. The break through for FPC came when Dave H played Del down the wing and he crossed for Mitch to hit a sweet left shot into the bottom corner.

Farmer, the goalie
FPC couldn’t settle on the lead though and Erin got back into the game when a forward broke free and put the ball past Farmer in a one on one situation. FPC never lost the head and battled on. FPC took the lead for the second time in the match when Jnr hit a sweet chip from 30 yards which went over the keeper and into the net. This was all they deserved as the Hibs goalie had already pulled of good saves from Mitch and Del to keep his side level.

From this stage FPC never looked back and added another one onto the tally when Jammy’s header shot past the goalkeeper to make it 3-1 at half-time. The score certainly justified how well FPC had played in the first half.

FPC started the 2nd half as they finished the 1st and were helped out by an Erin Hibs man being sent off for lashing out at Smikes. FPC had another few chances but could not convert any of them. Good running down the left hand side from Dave H was causing the Erin defence some bother.

FPC won a free-kick on the edge of the box which was squared to Big Barclay who sent Gilly through but he had to strike the ball quickly with the goalie closing him down. Now, in the last 15 minutes was when MOM Farmer earned his award. He pulled off many great saves with the best of the lot when an Erin player miss hit a ball which was dipping in but was turned over the cross bar in acrobatic style. He later joked that it was his pose for the camera.

In the last couple of minutes it took good defensive work by Moonie, Jnr and Moysie to keep the Erin side out. Erin won a penalty in the last minute when Jnr hardly touched the man but he went down (like every striker would) and won the penalty. Their full-back stepped up but he slotted the ball past the post to FPC’s delight.

The rest of the game was played out in a slow manner and the final whistle was greeted by cheers from FPC players. This was FPC first win over Erin Hibs in three attempts. The theory behind the win was that it was the first game of the season (on grass at least!).

All players played well but special mentions have to go to Jnr, Farmer and Smikes who really stuck out. There is no game arranged over the next couple of weeks.
