The home side had the better of the opening exchanges and player-manager David Fraser rattled the crossbar inside the first ten minutes. However, it was Airdrie who took the lead as Ross Cunningham was forced to bundle the ball into his own net following a scramble inside the penalty area.

Into the second half, FirParkCorner pushed forward in search of an equaliser, and were unlucky not to be rewarded on a number of occasions, finding the visiting goalkeeper in fine form. Indeed, it was Airdrie who doubled their advantage midway through the second half as a giant forward rose to power home a header that Malcolm Boyd tried desperately to keep out.

The home side pulled a goal back with ten minutes still to play, as top-scorer Joseph Lynas rounded the goalkeeper to fire high into the net. The tension continued to rise and tempers got frayed amid a flurry of yellow cards and it was only ever a matter of time until a red one was produced. A fiery midfielder was sent packing for the Diamonds after aiming a punch at FPC man Gerry McGuire.

The home side took full advantage and it was that man McGuire who claimed the equaliser with three minutes to go. Tony O'Neill scuffed a freekick into his path and he drilled the ball low past the goalkeeper for his first goal in an FPC shirt.

The Corner tried in vain to snatch a winner in the dying seconds, but the draw can be considerred a good result under the circumstances.
