FirParkCorner FC Win the Season Opener

A depleted Parselona squad held their own from the outset and had a couple of good opportunities to take the lead before Dave Hendry unleashed a rocket from the edge of the box to leave the visiting goalkeeper helpless.

Goalscorer!
A few moments later, an excellent through ball by Ross Cunningham sent Joe Lynas clean through on the 'keeper and he made no mistake in doubling the Corner’s lead. Captain Hendry added a third with another sweet strike from the 18-yard line to all but wrap up the victory.

However, he turned from saint to sinner shortly
afterwards as the referee awarded Parsa a penalty for some grappling in the box. The visitors failed to capitalise as Farmer guessed right to save the tame spotkick. That summed up the day as FPC seemed to be getting every break of the ball and it wasn't long before Hendry wrapped up his hat trick.

An excellent passing exchange in the midfield
culminated in Mark Gardiner playing him in with a neat back heel before he stuck the ball right in the postage stamp corner. That was the last action of the first half and Fraser opted to ring the changes, introducing Pettigrew, Wilson, Boyd, Speedie and Miller within minutes of each other to stake their claim for a place in the side to face Kilmarnock next week.

Well played guys

The pattern of the game barely changed and it wasn't long before Dave Hendry claimed his fourth of the game with yet another great finish. Goal number six came in the form of Pettigrew, who did well to nip in front of a defender to prod home a low cross from Wilson.

It was Derek Wilson who was next on the scoresheet as he capitalised in disarray in the away backline to stroke the ball home from the edge of the six yard box. Pettigrew then added to his tally by nicely finishing into the corner of the net to send the Corner 8-0 up.

Parselona, to their credit, continued to battle and did steal a goal back when Hepworth went to sleep and gave the striker an easy finish.

There was never any hope of a revival and it was another substitute Chris Miller who added number nine by calmly slotting home from about twelve yards after some scrappy defending. Craig Pettigrew completed his hat-trick to seal double figures as he brilliantly controlled the ball on his chest before flicking it over the head of the onrushing keeper and into the empty net,

The scoring wasn't over and Lynas, who had been re-introduced to the action just moments before, slotted past the hapless keeper to end a marvellous day for FPC.

The result sends the Corner to the top of the Scottish IFA league table for the first time ever and, despite it only being the first game of the new season, confidence is high that they can stay there for the duration of the campaign.
