FPC v Arab FC (United) Report

Last updated : 09 January 2004 By Firparkcorner

The game started off with no team getting any breakthrough, until about 10 or 15 minutes when United broke through and scored to go one up. This was a shock to the system for FPC who quickly upped the pace and equalised when Kenzie’s pass saw Dave Hendry squirm between two defenders to loop the ball over the advancing keeper.

First win of the year.

This should have settled FPC but they quickly found themselves behind again when a United forward broke clear of the defence to fire his side 2-1 in front. Kenzie was again involved with FPC’s second equaliser, as his ball into Jnr was knocked down and again Dave was there to fire home his second of the afternoon, low into the corner with his right foot. Soon after FPC gained the lead, with Kenzie yet again at the heart of the move, as his run down the left wing and cross was met by the head of a United defender, although Moyesie was in close attendance, and will likely try and claim it. FPC went into the break 3-2 up, but not playing at all like they can.

The second half started much like the first and United had gained themselves a 4-3 lead to the surprise of FPC, who had been playing solidly enough, although not creating many opportunities. Snr sneaked in totally unmarked after a clearance from defence to head beyond the keeper to make the score 4-4. After some good defending from FPC, with Del making some vital saves, the clinching goal came when a hand ball was spotted in the box and Kenzie stepped up to coolly send the keeper the wrong way to give FPC a narrow 5-4 lead, with around 10 minutes to go. After some poor finishing and some great defending from both sides, it was United who had the chance to level the game with the last kick, but the free kick was smacked against the cross bar and out of play, with the United players holding their heads in their hands as the final whistle blew as the ball flew over.

A sense of relief for FPC as a less than emphatic performance was still rewarded with a win, and another three points. Special mentions must go to Kenzie, who had a hand in four of the five goals, Dave who scored two and caused the opposing defence a lot of problems down the left, Del the goalie, who despite a shaky start, produced some fine saves to keep his side in the game, and to Piggy, for some inspired substitutions!!!
