Inter Malamb 2-1 FirParkCorner

The team’s image was further tainted when news filtered through that three of the first team squad had invested five English pounds to hire an ironing board and, indeed, an iron.

Unsurprisingly, the game started slowly and gradually slowed down. The ‘Corner backline seemed reasonably solid and well-organised and were very unlucky to go in a goal down at the interval. Thumping headaches from Friday’s excursions stopped most defenders from even jumping to connect with an Aberdeen corner, and the ball fell to a winger at the back post. An excellent finish from the impressive youngster left the stand-in FPC ‘keeper with no chance.

The lads rallied after the break and came close on a number of occasions, with the otherwise influential gaffer particularly guilty of failing to convert an opportunity.

As the visitors continued to apply pressure to the home goal, Inter caught FPC on the break to apply the killer touch with an extremely fortunate goal. A striker benefited from several breaks of the ball before beating the onrushing goalie with a tidy finish.

Despite showing obvious signs of fatigue, the FPC boys continued to dominate, and it was just as they deserved when they equalised with the goal of the day.

Fraser had opted for the gung-ho approach to try to salvage something from the match, and Hepworth seemed to relish his role up front. A delicate chip over the defence was met on the head with the faintest of touches, before the big Englishman rifled a superb volley into the far corner of the net.

Sadly, the goal was to prove to be a mere consolation, but the troops can take great heart from a good performance under the most difficult of circumstances.

After the match, the manager was heart to say “That was a very pleasing performance. I expected us to be on the end of a heavy defeat here and it’s a credit to the team that we can go home with our heads held high. I’m looking forward to getting back to winning ways against Kilmarnock next week.”
