The first scorer
In a very evenly matched game, FPC looked the slightly more dangerous, but it took a set-piece to break the deadlock. Darryn Alexander curled the ball round the wall to put the Corner a goal up midway through the first half. The joy was short lived, however, as the Hearts side grabbed an equaliser with an almost identical finish from 25 yards.

The game kicked into life in the second half as tempers looked set to erupt. Veteran striker Davie Tonner regained the lead for the visitors with an excellent finish into the corner of the net under pressure from a defender but the real action was in the middle of the park as some ridiculous refereeing decisions almost saw the game descend into farce. Darryn Alexander and Tony O'Neill both received yellow cards for their part in a centre-circle melee as the game exploded into action.

The atmosphere reached fever pitch shortly afterwards as the bungling whistler awarded a penalty against Stuart Jack for shielding the ball from a surprised, but delighted striker. The spot-kick was duly dispatched and the teams were tied at 2-2 going into the last ten minutes.

FirParkCorner still looked the more dangerous team and Joe Lynas should have had his name on the scoresheet before the Motherwell boys earned a penalty of their own. Joe Lynas was brought down as he raced into the box and Dave Hendry made no mistake with the pressure kick.

The drama was not over and goalscorer Darryn Alexander received his second booking for dissent with five minutes left on the clock to offer the Jambos side a lifeline. The home goalkeeper was up in the FPC box for the last throw of the dice as a series of corners were spun into the box. Tragically, the ball spun off an attackers head and looped into the roof of the net to allow the Edinburgh side to steal a point.

The teams were evenly matched but FPC thought they had done enough to earn the win. It is a measure of how far the side has come that the visitors' dressing room was disappointed with a draw against such a strong Hearts side. The Corner will be keen to get back to winning ways next week if the Scottish Cup tie with Falkirk survives the recent harsh weather.
