After a few skirmishes in the midfield, it the favourites soon began to look dangerous. Five minutes had passed when Ricky Mullen found some space in the box and shot past NLR to open the scoring.
A few quick goals from the Unofficial team killed the game off as a contest but then FPC rallied to produce a period of sustained pressure before the break. Someone managed to hit the post, Keith Foster missed by inches with a back post header and with Mitch and Del Boy at the centre of numerous scrambles around the goal mouth, the Unofficial side were lucky to have a clean sheet at the interval. The brief half time intermission was welcomed by all and when play resumed it was a tight affair. Both sides had chances to score but it was FPC who pulled one back when Del Boy launched an unstoppable left foot drive past Darren in the Unofficial goal. It was powerful and swerving and really gave the goalie no chance at all. Or you might say he charged down a kick out and the ball fluked it's way in off the post.
Ally Milne popped in a peach to make it 5-1 and that was all the scoring for a long while. Scott hit the post for FPC with a (genuine) powerful and swerving drive and Keith glanced a golden chance past the post with an outstretched toe. The FPC team were made to pay for their missed chances when an Unofficial striker stuck one away. PJM (in goals for NLR) made some good saves although his presence at the defence was missed. Smikes and Argfrot put in some cracking tackles and can consider themselves unlucky to be on the end of such a heavy loss.
for hitting the post from all of six yards out. FPC manager Piglet was pleased with the performance and is already planning for a re-match. She may consider moving Mitch onto the wing where his fleet footed skills don't result in him getting clobbered by a six foot centre half! FPC man of the match was probably Frazzle who played a belter in a defensive midfield role. 9-1 was the final score but both teams enjoyed a very enjoyable day. |
