I have enclosed a letter I sent to the board on the day of the Aberdeen game. I think that most of the points are valid, although we did play well that day. I think that in the first two competitive games we hit long balls and looked very dour indeed. I hinted that we might need two new players but McSkimming looked better in midfield and Ian Ross seems to be comfortable on the ball running at players. I still think that we need a striker though. I would like to see us try for John Robertson who isn't in the team with Hearts, and Marco Rajiamaki Morton's great FINISHer

Dear Sir,
17/8/96
As committed 'Well fans my family and I and go to all home and away games and you may be interested in my opinion on the current state of affairs.
It cannot have escaped your attention that this season Motherwell have not been playing the standard of football the fans expect to see. Over the last few seasons we played attacking, passing football that proved very successful. So far this season we have continually hit long balls to Willie Falconer. Not only is this ugly to watch but it hasn't been very successful.

If we struggle against teams from the lower divisions and the newly promoted what will Rangers and Celtic do to us. The people near me in the Davie Cooper stand seem to agree that we need at least two quality players - a midfielder and a striker. Although we made no money from the loss of McKinnon and Lambert, money has to be made available to the manager.

I am to young too remember the club's financial trouble in the early to mid eighties. While I like the club to be on a stable financial footing I think it is worth going into the red for a short term as it might keep us in the Premier league.

Yours sincerely
Derek Wilson
