GLF50: More from Kris

Young Guns
What exactly are they putting in the water at Fortress Fir Park? It seems that every week another one of our talented young squad is hitting the headlines for all the right reasons for a change. In my humble opinion, I think a lot of this has to do with the departure of Faddy. A lot of the pressure has been taken off of the likes of Clarkson, Craig, Hammell et al since he left, as it means they can now gel more as a team and play for each other. Don't get me wrong, Fadddy was immense, but sometimes it seemed he took on far too much on his own. Over the last few seasons, due to administration, these youngsters have come on leaps and bounds under the direction of Terry and Big Chris. The constraints of being in the red meant that these guys were playing maybe a little before they should have been, but it has all worked out swimmingly for them. The press mention it a lot, but it is fair to say that there is a great deal of heart and effort in the squad at the moment .I haven't seen the team work for each other as much as this in along time.

As good as the Billy Davies era teams were, I don't think the likes of Brannan, Goodman and Teale were ever as committed as Corrigan, Leitch and now and again Adams seem to be. When you think about it though, even that squad had its share of young talent, McCulloch, McMillan, Stevie Nicholas and the like. Although these guys have moved on to bigger (?) and better things, there was still a lot of interest from big clubs from these guys, meaning they were catching the eye on occasion. The problem was, when we let these youngsters go, we didn't get as much as we had anticipated for them, thus confining us to undersell these players at once in order to get a good return. It was good to see that we didn't settle for the £600,000 or whatever Scumdee and Preston were offering for The Fad. I hope we can do the same for Pearson. I've always thought that while Faddy had the flair and the attitude and that bloody awful rat's tail, Pearson was more of an engine room player and that could be seen in both his positive and negative displays. When he played well last season, at the top of his game, he was the one to watch. Everything we did went through him. However on the occasions when he wasnt up to par, the whole team played badly.

This season, so far at least, he has been playing to the best of his abilities. I was unable to attend the Rangers game, ( boy did I shout at the telly a lot that day! ), but the praise Pearo was getting from Rob McLean and Sandy " What's the Score? " Clarkson was a joy to listen to. He took his goal really well and managed to get through the whole game without getting booked, a feat in it's own. The rumour mill has been turning non stop since then. The "exclusive" by Colonel Sanders Keevins about Terry dropping him over his contract was just nonsensical. No manager would ever do that, whether or not he was his star player.

Kris's College Point of View
I don't know what I was expecting but yet again I find myself in a minority group here at Bell college. It is 11:41 and an hour and a half until my next lecture. Today in physiology, I shall be flanked by " Team Squirrel ", the self titled wee group of Rangers fans inhabiting the class and the rest of the group, die hard Celtic fans or volleyball players. I never thought I would yearn for the days of Italian when me and my buddy Fraser would converse over the likes of Shaun Fagan's diving header against the 'Tic or yet another blunder by Stevie Woods. But oh how I miss it! Having no fellow 'Well fans as friends here at college, all I get is, "good result saturday, eh?" or " who you goat* this week, eh? " ( not a typo,a description of how it is said) even at work the 'Well chat has died down cos my fellow fan duty manager is in Barcelona for the week. I think I'll go mad. The best quote I've heard so far from one of my fellow students was after the Hun game. "Nae wunner muwell goat a draw, they hid aw ther men ahint the baw!"

Whit gemme...I mean what game was he watching? Sometimes I despair. Unfortunately I won't get to a game now until December as I miss the Dunfermline and Livi home games because I'm on holiday. By then we should be above Hearts so we'll be looking forward to a UEFA Cup spot next season by the time I'm back.

Adios folks, Kris Jack Student ID no. 48771
