A Week to Save a Tenner

The early birds will save £10 per adult ticket while those able to take a concession will pay £5 less than the full price. For the regular supporter the season book makes sense. For example, if we assume that there will be nineteen SPL home matches and one cup tie and that three of those games will be against the old firm then a Cooper Stand adult will pay £280 (without the early discount) compared to around £412 for the normal gate price.

Although the rise in the cost of the season book for 07/08 seems modest at first glance, those with longer memories will have seen a considerable reduction in the benefits which are to be gained by paying for their home games in advance.

The cost of the season ticket for the Cooper Stand ten years ago was roughly half of next season's rate but it admitted the bearer "to all matches played by the club at Fir Park, European and Testimonials excepted". Alan Dick had his name on the book as club secretary at that time. In 99/00 Alistair Barron had his name under the Conditions of Use and the cup games were restricted to one in each of the domestic cup competitions.

Under the name of Stewart Robertson we have seen the loss of friendly matches and now only "the first home Cup tie" is covered. In season 06/07 this would have meant that the glamour tie against Partick Thistle in the League Cup at the end of August would have been included but the Scottish Cup encounter against Morton would have been a pay at the gate affair.

At this rate we have to ask, how long will it be until the season ticket covers only SPL matches?
