Aberdeen - 24h on

Aberdeen came with a strategy designed to frustrate and stifle with the hope that they could score on the break. They were successful only because we were unable to find the flair and versatility needed to penetrate their ranks of defenders.

A naked South Stand

We had a few close efforts in the second half, all from corners. Hughes, Porter and Quinn had headed opportunities but we couldn't beat Langfield. When the ball was on the ground we were unable to find time or space inside the box.

There must be some disappointment that Mulgrew was able to score from over thirty yards. No doubt the management team will examine whether the wall and keeper were positioned correctly or if Smith's reaction was sluggish but their main task will be to ensure that the eleven who take to the field next Saturday are in the correct frame of mind to deliver the first win of the season.

Some commentators suggested that both teams were showing signs of nerves following their results the previous week. If there was any truth in that analysis then the game against United could see us on tenterhooks. The Tangerines took a point from Celtic in game two and they must take a confidence boost from that.

As the transfer window nears its close there must be a chance that at least one of the many players named as possible signings might be in place. Maybe a new face is what we need to deliver some inspiration.
