Faddy Returns!
There has been some debate over how seriously we should take the League Cup but with our limited playing staff being stretched to the limit, we will be giving several squad members a rare run out. David Cowan will presumably retain his place at right back after a decent showing at Ibrox and Daniel Sengewald will almost certainly come into the centre of the defence. He will replace David Partridge, missing as a result of his straight red card at the weekend.

The midfield is where it begins to get interesting. We should be resting Leitch and Pearson to ensure they are fully fit for the important league games coming up. That means that Lasley, Ramsay and Adams could be in the middle of the park and Terry Butcher will need to decide whether or not to play Kevin McDonald or move McFadden back.

Faddy will certainly return after missing the Rangers game through suspension and as ever we will be relying on him to create things. With Dirk Lehmann probably out, Stevie Ferguson is almost guaranteed his starting place and he could be joined by any one of a few partners. McFadden could join him, Kemas could be given a surprise start, Darren Jack could come in as a direct replacement for Dirk or Iain Russell could be given his first start. After scoring yet again in the reserves, Russell is probably the favourite and will feel aggrieved if he isn’t given his chance.

Aberdeen will be looking at this as an easy chance to get into a quarter final and it is hard to blame them. Darren Mackie returning from injury will give them a boost and even the most optimistic ‘Well fan will probably be hoping for extra time and penalties. Aberdeen have defeated us in the last two League Cup meetings, both in extra time – can we reverse the trend? No. A 3-1 home win.
