After the deadline dealings

The five year plan hatched between Les Hutchison and the Well Society aims to deliver the promise of fan and community ownership and to ensure financial stability.  It is expected that the Society will soon call a meeting of members to allow discussion of the changes.  While a degree of optimism should be expected following the agreement, the reality is that the Society has a commitment to raise a lot of cash in the next few years.

The shorter term priority for Ian Baraclough is to make sure that we retain our long held status as a top division team.  To that end there was a late flurry of signings that had club officials and supporters burning the midnight oil as deal after deal was completed.

It was a night like no other in the history of the club.  Three players were announced in the final hour to join the four earlier signings since the new manager took charge.  Six of the seven come from the lower end of the English game and the seventh is ‘Well old boy, Stephen Pearson.

The moves reflect recognition that the squad that now sits at the eleventh place in the table is struggling.  Whether by misfortune, injuries or simply bad form, new blood is needed if our fortunes are to improve.

The arrivals could easily form the basis of a new starting eleven.  We have a goalkeeper, two defenders at centre and left side, two midfielders and two wingers and a couple of weeks to integrate them with their team-mates before we face Ross County on Valentine's Day.

Anyone like to forecast the starting eleven?
