All Change in the SPL

The BBC reports that the split is dead but Clyde suggests that it may go. The abolition of the discredited idea of splitting the league after thirty three games is to be welcomed. The expectation was that some excitement would be generated as six teams struggled to avoid relegation and while the rest sought European qualification. It did not work out like that.

The approval of possible ground sharing schemes has been the headline grabber. Hearts can move to Murrayfield (though it still remains unclear how they can guarantee fixtures if the SRU choose to play a rugby match); Dundee can move along to Tannadice (and given that their plea to delay laying undersoil heating was denied that seems likely); Clyde can move to Rugby Park if they win the first division and Falkirk can share the plastic at East End Park if they are successful.

Both Clyde and ICT asked for a delay to the 31 March deadline for stadium readiness but that was denied.

It seems that a review of the ten thousand seat rule will take place soon (and not before time) and it was revealed that a bid (from a terrestrial broadcaster) has been received for a TV highlights package.

The reaction from Maryhill has been predictable…many mumblings and the likelihood of a formal statement ‘at an appropriate time’. No doubt the lawyers are already rubbing their hands at the thought of litigation.
