Another busy day

Jim Gannon may only have been officially named as Motherwell manager a matter of hours ago but he moved quickly in the transfer market. Feisty midfielder Steven Jennings was secured on a free from Tranmere Rovers and will add something to the squad. He seems willing to get stuck in but also pushes forward when the chance appears and is capable of playing on the right hand side as well. He won't be eligible for the first round of the Europa League qualifying.

Our new midfield maestro
Two players confirmed their departures from the club as Brian McLean signed on at Falkirk and Graeme Smith was announced as a capture for Brighton. McLean, when fit, can be a decent enough SPL player but no more and his moving on is no real loss. Smith has improved a lot recently and his absence will be more strongly felt. However, it is interesting to see he failed to move to a club capable of challenging for glory as he claimed was his goal and instead went to the English lower leagues. The massive wage increase means he can hardly be questioned though.

Mark McGhee has spoken out in the press about his frustration with Stephen Hughes. McGhee is, once again, finding it easier to talk about players than sign them and the news that Hughes is still considering extending his Fir Park stay is surely a boost. Jim Gannon will no doubt be making moves to keep him and we can only cross our fingers he succeeds.

And finally, in less than 24 hours from the time of writing, we will engaged with a no doubt gruesome struggle against Welsh part-timers Llaneli. The club revealed over 3000 tickets have already been sold, a respectable number under the circumstances, so let's hope those making the journey to Airdrie get to see a win!
