Back to the SPL this Weekend

They hold second place in the table and have yet to lose a game. The scalps of both halves of the Old Firm have been taken and the pundits are full of praise for their style of play. John Collins received September's Manager of the Month award last week. He said, "The players are trying to do the right things, passing the ball from the first minute to the last, and they are getting their rewards." Does that sound familiar?

We can take heart from the award and we hope that the normal pattern applies after such a presentation - an immediate dip. Collins was reported to be a target for the vacant top spot at QPR but he dismissed the approach saying that he would complete his present contract. The talk is now about securing a European place for next season.

Brian Kerr has been getting plenty of coverage in the press. Most of his comments were in praise of his manager but he fell short of telling us that Hibs is the only team he's ever wanted to play with! He can expect a warm welcome on his return to Fir Park and if he produces his normal pattern of play at Fir Park then we will be little troubled.

The only blemish to the Leith team's start to the season has been their exit from the CIS Cup - at the hands of Motherwell. Last year's holders were on the receiving end of a 'Well team playing at top form and we can be sure that McGhee will be planning how we can complete the double.

Saturday can't come soon enough.
