Cardiff Preview

Cardiff lost out in the English Second Division play offs last season so they are probably a decent side. ‘Well fans might remember Neil Alexander, their ‘keeper, from his time with Livingston and names such as Gareth Whalley and Spencer Prior might be familiar. Cardiff are probably better known for the antics of their chairman, the ‘charismatic’ Sam Hammam, who caused a lot of controversy for allegedly stirring up crowd trouble during a cup tie with Leeds. Cardiff fans have had a bad press recently but any visitors can be assured of a warm welcome from the ‘Well fans. Prices will be Ten pounds for adults and a FIVER for concessions..

For Motherwell, it’s another game where we can test ourselves against an SPL level (or better) side. Daniel Sengewald might have recovered from an injury to make his debut but Khaled Kemas will definitely be missing. That means that the team that played against Birmingham may well start again and that can only be a good thing. If we can field a consistent side in pre-season, the understanding that needs to be developed between the players may be in place for the opening while Livi struggle to integrate their new signings.

Our two young stars, Pearson and Faddy, have been the standouts of the pre-season so far but it is heartening to see how well everyone else has done. It is clear that if we are to survive this season, people like Adams, Woods and Corrigan have to perform above themselves and they look like they’re going to do that. Adams has worked his socks off and showed a willingness to support the front players. Corrigan seems to be having an identity crisis – he thinks he’s Beckenbauer – while Woods has been making solid saves while only rarely having worrying moments.

Having defeated a Premiership side last week, there’s no reason why a Nationwide team should scare us. However, the performance is still more important result and the players could be forgiven for losing their first game since April 21st. That won’t be happening just yet though, expect us to edge out another 2-1 victory.
