The third round will be seeded on the basis of last season's league positions and on that basis the seeds will be the Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hibs, Motherwell and Kilmarnock assuming Killie, United and Hibs don't falter in the second round.
No date has yet been set for this draw but there is he potential for Motherwell to face an opponent we haven't met for some time. Although this competition will not have the thrill of the Europa League, there is the potential on a nice day out at Hampden on the horizon.
