Close season - week 1 roundup

The pitch has had its annual service and is now seeded.  The germination covers and the warm spell should mean that green shots will be appearing soon.  The club is confident (!) that the surface will be ready for the Europa League game in mid-July.

Steve Jennings agreed a one year extension last week and he set a trend that was followed by Jamie Murphy and Jonathan Page.  Murphy’s ten goals in the season just gone were a vital contribution and the twenty year old is now contracted until 2013.  Nineteen year old Page made the best of his loan spell with Stirling Albion and with any luck we’ll be seeing him as a first team regular before his term runs out in 2012.

For three of our squad the season has not yet ended.  Robert McHugh and Steven Saunders are in Croatia with Scotland’s U19s.  Success in the mini group would deliver qualification for the tournament proper.  They played their part in the opening 4-0 win over Montenegro on Wednesday but Scotland lost to an added time goal (1-2) when they faced Belgium on Friday.  A section decider will take place on Monday when we face unbeaten Croatia.

Club captain Stephen Craigan will were the armband for Northern Ireland for their two match tour of the Americas.  He’ll face Turkey in New Britain, Connecticut on Wednesday and then World Cup finalists Chile in Chillan the following Sunday.

The deadline for earlybird season ticket renewals is approaching.   To take advantage of the 5% discount fans need to stump up before 31 May.
