Depressed Market? We're not that Depressed! TB

The rumours for this latest attempted snatch started late last week. The club confirmed that they had received a formal offer late on Monday and that it had been rejected.

Dundee, it seems, are awash with money and they are intent on spending it. Or are they simply out for column inches?

Terry Butcher was less than impressed. He is quoted in the Sun saying, “What annoys me more than anything else is clubs only have one motive when they make offers like this. It’s not to get the player — it’s to look good in front of their supporters.

“As far as I am concerned this is what this is all about.

“If they are serious about making an offer for James then they better up their bid considerably.”

“We turned down £600,000 from Preston a year ago before James was even a Scotland player, so why go in with a lower figure?

“I know that you have starting figures to begin negotiations with, but let’s be fair.

“I could ring up Real Madrid and say I’ll offer £100,000 for Zidane and tell everyone I’d made a bid for him. At the end of the day that wouldn’t buy his big toe nail.

“You must be realistic. They will say that it’s a depressed market, but we aren’t that depressed.

The 31 August and the closure of the transfer window are still some way off. It can’t come quick enough!
