Motherwell fans face an anxious wait after Saturday's game to see if the side will be involved in the inaugural Europa League. Despite many hoping for a trip or two abroad this summer, the SFA has warned St Mirren are also in with a great shout of claiming the Fair Play spot.

A SFA spokesman confirmed that Motherwell and St Mirren were in pole position to take the Europa League place awarded to Scotland through the UEFA Fair Play league but said it was "too close to call" which side would come out on top.

After reports are processed on Tuesday morning, Monday being a bank holiday, the result should be announced later in the afternoon.

Mark McGhee has made it perfectly clear that he would love to be involved in European football, regardless of how we qualify. It would almost certainly have a negative impact on next season, given the need to cut short our close season by several weeks, but given how rarely we get the chance of any European football it would be a major disappointment if we miss out now.

The criteria used to form the Fair Play League are:

Red/Yellow Cards

Positive Play

Respect Towards Opponents

Respect Towards Officials

Behaviour of Team Officials

Behaviour of Support

Once again, it should be stressed that the 'traditional' end of season pitch invasion could severely jeopardise our chances - so please stay in the stand come the final whistle on Saturday!
