Fir Park for a fiver

Announcing the initiative at Fir Park, John Boyle said, "For the Aberdeen game we're slashing the entry price to five pounds. We've have had a great season, a traumatic season, and we are on the brink of achieving third place. If we were to come third that would be a monumental achievement given the financial dominance of Rangers and Celtic. I'd like to congratulate the management and players for their huge efforts."

Flush with fivers

He referred to the loss of Phil O'Donnell and the way that the management and players got through the ordeal. Next were the difficulties with the poor weather and now the poor condition of the pitch. Despite everything we might clinch third spot on Saturday ("especially if we were to beat Rangers tonight").

He said that they wanted to encourage every Motherwell fan to get out of their armchair and come along to support the team.

He was backed up but supportive comments from Mark McGhee, Scott Leitch and Bob Malcolm- and happy birthday wishes were extended to Mark Reynolds!

The club will embark on a data gathering exercise on Saturday when fans will be encouraged to register by submitting the email addresses to engage in a "Getting to know you campaign". This move into the modern era would compliment the new club website which is in development.

The reduced gate price, which will apply to Aberdeen fans as well, should ensure a bumper crowd for this crucial fixture. A home win might be enough to secure third place and it would end the Dons' hopes.
