Friday night is football night

Both clubs agreed to the move ;  the statement on Motherwell’s official site says,

“Motherwell have agreed to join the Friday night football experiment and as such, the match against Hibs will now take place on Friday 2nd December.

The initiative had varying degrees of success when first piloted when Aberdeen met Dunfermline at Pittodrie recently.

The club have been keen to explore the positives and negatives for some time now and have agreed to take part."

It remains to be seen what effect this has on the attendance.  The target will be the last visit of the Leith team in January of this year when 4,202 hardy souls saw Murphy and Saunders deliver a 2-0 win on a Saturday afternoon.

The SPL claim that their survey of supporters is likely to show a majority in favour of Friday football.  Time will tell.

This is not the first time Motherwell and Hibs have played on a Friday night.  On 13 January 1995 the teams played out a 0-0 draw in front of the TV cameras during the last Friday night experiment.  That game was Scott Howie's debut and the referee was Les Mottram.   Here's some nostalgia - S Howie R Shannon, C McCart, M Krivokapic, B Martin, R McKinnon P Lambert, J Dolan, W Davies T Coyne, P McGrillen (sub: S Kirk, 72 min)
