Fulham too good for Motherwell

A familiar looking Motherwell side lined up in the new home kit as the visitors kicked off.  All eleven had played with the club last season. Twardzik got the nod over Nielsen and McHugh partnered Sutton in attack.

Fulham soon had us under pressure but we survived a few early corners.  Vigurs came close at the other end but we fell behind in 19 minutes when Burgess was given room in the box to head David's corner into the net.  McHugh and Sutton threatened but we were never in command as the Championship side reached the break.  Shaun Hutchinson got a well deserved standing ovation as he left the field.

The manager made only two half time substitutions whereas Fulham changed at least half a dozen in the second period.  Law replaced McHugh and Francis-Angol came on for Ainsworth although ZFA lasted only ten minutes and Thomas was given his place.

Twardzik conceded the second goal when he failed to deal with a long range shot from Stafylidis but the young 'keeper redeemed himself with a series of stops late in the game.  Our best chance came in 73 minutes when Hammell set up Vigurs.  The volley was well held by Jorenen.

It was hardly an inspiring performance but the majority of the team got 90 minutes on the pitch.  The focus now is on Thursday's game against Stjarnan.
