Inverness - 24h On

What makes this win all the more remarkable is the recent form of the two sides. We have been struggling for weeks while Inverness seem to have given up the habit of losing completely. We knew going into the game that nothing short of a win would do and we got it – with a classic away performance.

Richie does the business

The first half was a little shaky and we struggled to impose ourselves on the game. It took some last ditch defending to keep us alive but the second half was much better. After we got the goal we defended well and while a single goal lead is always dangerous we were probably closer to getting the second goal than they were to an equaliser.

So, we now find ourselves in the position of being ‘back in the game’ as it were. We have a home game against Falkirk next week which we must be looking to win and Inverness have a couple of tough games coming up.

The race with them is very much on. The problem might come from Aberdeen though. They have been on an excellent run since we defeated them on Boxing Day and they have a good run of games coming up. But we have still to play them, albeit at Pittodrie, and that game will now be vital. If we can take four points from our home games with Falkirk and Hibs then the Aberdeen game will be nicely set up for another do or die situation.

But all that is in the future. For now we can enjoy an excellent away win and take pleasure in the fact that while we can throw in some stinkers we can also produce some good efforts against decent teams. Jim Paterson came back into the squad and with Scott Leitch also on the verge of a return things are definitely a bit brighter this afternoon than they were in the middle of last week! I suppose that is the great thing about Motherwell, that when we seem to be at the lowest point we come up with a surprising win.

Long may it continue!
