JB finds gem

boyleThe Stockport County Mad site was asked for a view on Jim Gannon and, with thanks to editor Eytan Halon, we present his thoughts below.

If as reported, Gannon is Motherwell manager, then you have one hell of a
manager. He was not only a hero as a player at Edgeley Park but also as a
manager in h
s own right. He was, at times, very controversial and feels
quite at ease criticising anybody he wants to, but I'm sure you'll get to
love his outspoken nature.

Gannon miraculously saved us from relegation when he took over on Boxing Day
2005, and took us to the fringes of the play-offs the following season. The
next season, we won at Wembley for the very first time. We had a strong
start to this season that has just finished until the financial problems
emerged and we had to sell half our squad and then eventually make the
manager redundant (thank you administrators!)

Gannon put together the most talented group of youngsters that Stockport
County and probably League One and Two had ever seen. Without doubt, if we
were on a stronger financial footing and could have demanded proper transfer
fees (as well as holding on to these youngsters and letting them develop)
then I can assure you that some would have gone for multi-million transfer
fees. Instead, they have gone for a couple of hundred thousand to the likes
of Peterborough and Brighton.

Gannon likes to have his team play football the right way and entertain the
fans. His team have plucked so many gems out of non-league and have a real
eye for talent.

You've got a great manager, and I can't help but envy you. That said, he
goes with my best wishes and he is certainly a manager that is destined for
the top.
