Despite the manager’s frustration at the manner of the win there were a few signs that we have the potential to keep our mid-table status.  Thomas showed again that he has the ball skills needed to turn defenders inside out.  At times there were three or four of them trying stop his dribbling runs into the penaly area.  More work to improve stamina and a little more bulk will see him develop into a very desirable asset and it’s good to know that we have him under contract until the summer of 2018.

Moult scores the winner

Keiran Kennedy should look back on this past week as an important step in his career.  He made his debut at Methil on Tuesday and held his place on merit for Saturday’s game.  Two games and two wins for the loss of one goal is a decent statistic for a defender.  He looked comfortable throughout and was rewarded with one of the man of the match awards.  We have him under contrast until 2017 and he’ll be a constant challenger for a place in the team.

Theo Robinson was given an introduction to the Fir Park turf for the last half hour of the game.  He looked keen enough but as Kilmarnock were by that time forcing most of the play to the South Stand end there were fow opportunities for him to get involved.  No doubt he’ll be working hard over the next couple of weeks to catch up on his pre-season training.

Moult’s penalty not only won the match but it gave him three goals in as many games.  That’s a decent return rate for any striker, even better for a team that been struggling.  Long may his run continue.

The League Cup draw has given us a rare trip to Cappielow at the end of September.  This has to be seen as a decent opportunity to improve our dreadful recent record in this competition.  A win would have us in the quarter finals and the chance, if nothing else, of a decent pay day.

Meanwhile, a reminder that keith lasley’s testimonial match against Bolton kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.  Entry is a reasonable £10/£5 and the Centenary Suite will be open ahead of the game for a signing session by the team.  Our captain deserves a decent turnout for his contribution to the club.
