McGhee - the first month

In truth four points from our first three games under his stewardship was an excellent return - but four points from four, after Saturday's home loss to Inverness, was the minimum requirement.  Last weekend undid much of the good work from Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.

Of course, one (more) loss is scarcely ground for panic.  We weren't brilliant at Rugby Park but got a break and won.  We probably weren't that much worse against ICT but first half luck was on their side and there was no way back.

Club owner Les Hutchison is using the international break to whisk McGhee off to the sun and the importance of this meeting cannot be underestimated.  In his last spell, McGhee did promote some youth but he also persuaded John Boyle to open his chequebook.

We’ll need to hope that he has not lost his charm as it is this meeting that will go a long way to deciding what funds are available in January to strengthen the squad.  Four points from the last four games may suggest the priotity is for immediate solutions rather than a longer term youth policy to spark an upturn towards survival.

Motherwell fans will have a chance to hear about the McGhee’s transatlantic trip on Monday when he will take questions at the Meet the Manager (again) event in Fir Park’s Centenary Suite.  Updates will also come from the Well Society as we move slowly but surely to community ownership.
