Next up - Kilmarnock

Killie have yet to win a league game and their two draws from five attempts have resulted in howls of protest from the Rugby Park faithful.  A rough average has them conceding three goals a game and in front of their home support they managed to ship four to Ross County before the interval.  The midweek League Cup win over Berwick Rangers will not convince many that they have turned the corner.

Killie at Fir Park in May

The return of Boyd has done little to aid Killie’s goal scoring strength but we can expect more of a threat from Higginbotham.   Goalkeeper MacDonald joined in the close season from Falkirk and he has already conceded 14 in the league, surely we can exploit the defensive frailty?

Hammell, McManus and Fletcher were not called on for the midweek game in Methil and we can expect two or three of them to start on Saturday.  Moult scored the vital equaliser against East Fife and he’ll hope to get the nod.  McDonald, never short in confidence, scored what we hope to be the first of many this campaign and a good performance from him will inspire the rest.  He was late into the pre-season training regime but should now be close to his best.

The last meeting between the teams was at Fir Park in May when a 3-1 win gave us a chance of avoiding the play-off.  Only two (Lasley and Johnson) that started then kicked off against East Fife.

The midweek wins don’t disguise early season form but on balance it appears that we are in better shape that our opponents.  If that’s the case then a 3-1 home win could be on the cards.
