Next up : Ross County

As the big 'Well support left New Douglas Park last Friday under the dark cloud of the latest setback there seemed to be confirmation that our top league status would have to be resolved in the two-legged shootout at the end of May.  And few believed that we would survive.  A glimmer of light appeared the next day when we learned that both Kilmarnock and Ross County had been beaten.  Has an escape route opened?

The manager, quite rightly, pointed out that there are still 12 points up for grabs and our rivals may be sharing some sleepless nights if results go our way.  But we have to win on Saturday.

Honours have been even this season with a win, a draw and a loss giving each team four points from the three meetings.  Our opponents have been on a great run but that ended when they met Partick Thistle last week.  We could do with them having a loss of confidence.

Following a twelve game run without a win, County played Motherwell at Fir Park on Valentine's Day.  Their 3-2 win was to be the start of an unexpected revival that stretched to eight wins and a draw

For Motherwell there may be a doubt about Laing who had to be replaced after half an hour against Hamilton.  On the plus side Hammell got another 90 minutes under his belt with another U20 appearance.  He must be close to a return and given Straker's form we could use our regular left back in the starting eleven.  Otherwise we can expect a familiar attacking line up.

Our chairman has made another appeal for the fans to turn out in big numbers to encourage the team on this occasion he adds, “Please, don’t give up the fight.”  If he can get that message across to the players we may keep the interest in the final few games alive.  A 2-0 win would be a good starting point.
