Next up - St Mirren

We now travel to Greenhill Road to take on St Mirren looking to reclaim our third spot.

There are few good times to play St Mirren from a Motherwell point of view as in recent years we have provided them with a positive result just when they needed it most.  They are still deep in the relegation fight but they won at Tannadice and ran Celtic to the 92nd minute at the weekend.  Their confidence will be on the up.

The likes of Thomson, Dargo and Barron returning will give them a further boost but looking at the squads dispassionately it is hard to see anything other than a Motherwell win if we can play to our best.

Humphrey and Murphy will definitely fancy their chances of causing problems down the flanks while Blackman is currently in simply sensation form.  His partner is not so clear though with both Gow and Sutton staking a claim to start while Fitzpatrick will also feel he was harshly dropped for the defeat at Hibs.

In our defence we may be in the bizarre situation of leaving out a newly capped Scotland international in the form of Stevie Saunders but that just shows the strength of our squad.   Keith Lasley has been on the treatment table weeks and is once more rated doubtful.

St Mirren are a dismal side but that has not stopped them posing us problems before.  There is no reason we cannot win this game though but it will take a strong performance to come out on top with a 2-1 victory.
