Next up - Hearts away

The Fir Park side have not won in Gorgie for a couple of years and they failed to score in either visit last season.  Last week’s win over Partick Thistle will send them on the road with spirits high and a speculation at 11/2 will attract a few pounds.

There is growing unrest in the Hearts’ support at the stuttering progress of their team.  Three draws and a loss in the last four games is not what the thousands who pack Tynecastle expect.  Robbie Neilson’s latest ploy is to adopt a three at the back formation.  Whether they return to a traditional back four on Saturday remains to be seen.

Mark McGhee also elected to field three centre backs in his last team selection by introducing Ferguson to partner McManus and Heneghan.  The win that followed may tempt him to adopt the same eleven to enable the option of matching our opponents.  At his Thursday media conference there was reference to a “cat and mouse” scenario with each manager checking the opposition’s formation and adjusting accordingly.

If the form of our striking duo continues we should be able to find the net.  Moult and McDonald have resumed the understanding that served us so well last season and now that Moult has fully recovered from the injury that kept him out for weeks the goals are starting to flow.

A point might be enough to retain our sixth place and it could come after an exciting 2-2 draw.
